On this tour we visit the once Danish towns of Lund and Malmö just across the Øresund Bridge. We tell the story of Denmark and Sweden by looking at the history, sights and views of the province Scania, the place where these two countries meet.
Starting in Copenhagen, you travel across the magnificent Øresund Bridge to the student town of Lund, which we cover on foot. Having been founded around year 960 when the area was part of Denmark, Lund is an excellent place to learn about the Vikings, and we see several of their monumental Rune Stones. This is followed by a visit to the mediaeval Lund cathedral, once the seat of the largest Christian archdiocese in the world. We finish off Lund by looking at part of the university, founded in 1666, before we head off to Malmö where you have lunch in one of the town's many trending restaurants.
After lunch we jump up on the bike to have a tour of Malmö, Sweden’s third largest town and the world’s 2nd best non-Dutch bike town after Copenhagen itself. During the tour we learn the story of Malmö, a place that is the constant underdog painstakingly working its way up to be wealthy and important, only to crash as the rug is pulled from beneath its feet, for the process to start all over again. The tour also covers how not all mediaeval church builders were good architects, what to think about when crossing 20 km of thin sea ice with a party of 12,000 men, how you can get rich by bad book-keeping and what the Koreans mean by “The tears of Malmö”. We also visit the most Social Democratic place in the world. The tour covers all important sights of Malmö, including the City Hall, the Möllevången neighbourhood, Folkets Park, and of course the landmark skyscraper Turning Torso.
After the bike tour you are free to stay in Malmö on your own for as long as you wish before returning to Copenhagen with the train, running every 20 minutes.
