The urban core of the Swedish side of the Greater Copenhagen area includes the charming cities of Lund and Malmö. While close in distance, these two cities could not be more different. Lund is a quaint, historic town steeped in tradition, home to a prestigious university and a grand medieval cathedral. Malmö, on the other hand, is vibrant and ever-evolving, known for its striking modern architecture and cosmopolitan culture. Together, they provide the perfect introduction to Scania (Skåne) and Sweden.
Our journey begins with a pickup in Copenhagen, where your private group of up to 6 will travel to Lund. Upon arrival, we’ll delve into the fascinating history of the town, starting with the Vikings who founded it over a thousand years ago. We’ll explore monumental Rune Stones and learn about their significance. Next, we’ll stroll through the university area, getting a glimpse of the academic life and quirky traditions that define this vibrant student city. The visit to Lund concludes with a tour of the medieval Lund Cathedral, once the seat of the largest Christian archdiocese in the world.
From Lund, we continue to Malmö, where you can choose your own lunch spot in the vibrant Malmö Saluhall food hall, which offers a variety of culinary delights (lunch is not included). After lunch, enjoy a traditional Swedish fika (coffee and a pastry), which is included in the tour.
After fika, we uncover Malmö’s intriguing story—a city often seen as the underdog, repeatedly rising to prominence only to face setbacks that force it to start anew. Highlights of this part of the tour include a church with a story fit for Monty Python, tales of fortunes made through creative bookkeeping, and the Korean expression “The tears of Malmö.” The tour wraps up in “Malm-hattan,” Malmö’s modern district of skyscrapers, offering an excellent view towards Denmark.
The tour concludes in Malmö around 15:00. Your guide will ensure you have a first-class train ticket for your return journey, allowing you to travel comfortably back to Copenhagen or onward to your next destination.
